Stand-up comedian Jason Manford and his partner, Lucy Dyke, have donated their newborn daughter’s placenta and umbilical cord to scientific research. The TV funny man says they chose to help the Anthony Nolan Trust with stem cell research after meeting representatives at the hospital in Manchester where the little girl was born last week.
Manford claimed “It means that our baby will have helped save a life before she’s even started school which is a pretty cool thought! Unless you’re one of these nutters who fries it the day after for breakfast…it’d be worth asking your midwife about it too!”
The Anthony Nolan Trust matches donors of blood stem cells and bone marrow to sufferers of blood cancers to enable lifesaving transplants to take place.
Click through to the Anthony Nolan Trust website for more on donating and spread the word, I wasn’t aware that it was even an option when Elsa was born but would certainly have considered it. Well done to Manford and Dyke for raising awareness.
