BewilderedDad.com loves a survey – who can forget the research that proved being a dad was the most dangerous job in the world? So it was with great joy that BT’s latest offering dropped into the inbox, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Parents are apparently sending their little ones off to sleep with a selection of bizarre chart hits and football songs according to 2,000 mums and dads who were polled recently. Although the traditional songs like Humpty Dumpty are still sung in the nurseries of Great Britain, there is a move towards songs such as Moon River and even Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby!
Other oddities to reach the modern lullaby top ten are Stay With Me by Sam Smith, a song which sounds beautiful when sung by Sam Smith but almost unlistenable when attempted by pretty much anyone else, and Pitbull and Ke$ha’s Timber!
Here’s the full top ten, in traditional reverse order:
- Stay With Me – Sam Smith
- Groovy Kind of Love – Phil Collins
- Timber – Pitbull Ft. Kesha
- Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns ‘N Roses
- Sing – Ed Sheeran
- Islands in the Stream – Dolly Parton
- My Way – Frank Sinatra
- Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice
- There Must be an Angel – Eurythmics
- Moon River – Audrey Hepburn
In addition Swing Low Sweet Chariot and You’ll Never Walk Alone were belted out by parents who couldn’t recall the lyrics to Three Blind Mice and the like. Of course, if you don’t know the words to Rock-a-bye Baby but you know the entirety of that Pitbull song then you need to take a seriously long look at yourself.
Of course, singing any of these tunes is preferable to playing your children the recent party album released by Justin from CBeebies (follow that link with extreme care – includes song clips).
