Happy Yorkshire Day! Obviously Yorkshire Day is a big deal around these parts, seeing as this site is home to the Bewildered Family Guide to Yorkshire. I thought I’d use today to drop a big announcement about the guide, but first here is a video I made to celebrate this festival of festivals.
Bewildered Family Guide to Yorkshire – LIVE!
Yes, on Thursday 4th October at 9pm, the first ever Bewildered Family Guide to Yorkshire live show will take place. It’s going to be at the Ilkley Playhouse, and it’s part of the Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe. There’s free entry, it lasts an hour and I’d love it if you cam along and saw it.
I’m pretty flaming excited about it. Expect a sort of mix of stand-up comedy, games (no obligation to take part – I hate when you’re forced into that sort of stuff) and video. I’m not going to give too much away at the moment, but it will be a whistlestop tour of this county that I love so much.
Elsa and Seth will be there in recorded form – it’s way past their bedtime – and it will be a really good laugh. I have done stand-up comedy in fits and starts throughout my adult life, and regularly host live events, but this is something different. I want it to be a joyous celebration of Yorkshire and everything it has to offer families.
Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe
The Ilkley Literature Festival is the biggest event of its kind in northern England, and regularly sees big names drop into town for readings and performances every autumn. It’s so renowned that there’s even a film being made, called Ilkley and starring Derek Jacobi, which is set in the midst of the festival.
Ilkley is the nearest town to the village in which we live, and there’s a real sense of local pride when it’s time for the festival again every year.
The fringe is an opportunity for performances and shows that are a bit off the beaten track of the main festival. There will be theatre, poetry, art and so much more. I’m dead chuffed that they liked my proposal enough to give me a slot, and I can’t wait to get on with it.
All of the fringe shows are free and have some relation to Yorkshire. You’re bound too uncover some real gems during the course of the festival. The full fringe line-up is released on Monday 13th August.
Come and Support Bewildered Dad
It would be great if you could come and support the show. Obviously, only if you’re relatively near. You don’t need to book or anything, just pop down. There’s loads of great places to eat and drink in Ilkley.
It will be great to gauge whether the show is something that could appear at other venues around the county, or whether it is just a delightful one off. Either way, I’m excited. Can you tell?
