Getting to Harrogate Town
By Car
Harrogate is just a few miles from junction 47 of the A1(M), making it easy to reach by car. Rather than installing a clean air zone in the town centre like some places, you will find that there actually appears to be a competition to discover who can navigate the biggest, most cumbersome gas-guzzling 4×4 around the narrow Edwardian streets with reckless abandon.
Down some of the roads near Valley Gardens, where traffic parks on both sides, piloting a fully specced Range Rover Evoque just a few metres takes on the spectacle of a monster truck extravaganza.
There’s very little parking near Harrogate Town’s ground on Wetherby Road, but you can find a number of places to park up in the centre. It’s only a short walk and don’t worry, it’s Harrogate – your car won’t be stolen, but it might be silently judged. Have it valeted before matchday, just to be on the safe side.
By Train
Harrogate sits, funnily enough, on the Harrogate line between Leeds and York. It’s also just over three hours to London on the direct service to Kings Cross, just in case some of that Chelsea set fancy seeing what real posh people are like.
Once you alight at Harrogate, you must wipe your feet on exiting the station. The council are trying to push through a ‘slippers only in the town centre’ rule, but it is still working its way through the legislative process.
