Isolation Song Contest to Keep the Kids Entertained

Schools across the UK are closed in an attempt to stem the spread of coronavirus. It is a sensible measure, but does pose one issue – how the hell will we keep the kids entertained while we’re socially distancing or self isolating? Hell, how will we keep ourselves entertained?

The answer was simple – I ran a song contest over the internet! There is no Eurovision Song Contest this year, so I decided to replace it with the Isolation Song Contest! Parents across the country have come up with songs with their kids on the theme of ‘animals’ and here are the finalists.

Elsa, aged 6, and Seth, aged 3:

And here is the WINNER – Emily, age 7:

Emily was excited to find out she had won (and beaten her brother), to say the least:

ANIMALS!

Songs could be any length, any style, and recorded on a phone, created using Pro Tools or anything in between! The quality of recording was irrelevant; this was all about having fun, keeping the kids entertained and connecting with other families from the safety of your own home.

The Isolation Song Contest Prize

The winning song appeared on the Fun Kids Stuck at Home podcast! Thanks to Matt Deegan for his offer.

In reality, this was merely a chance to have some fun, fill some time and be as sociable as possible in a time of social distancing. We all have an uphill battle keeping the kids entertained over the coming weeks, so the more projects we can work on together, the more the time will fly.
