A year ago I made a cake for Elsa’a first birthday. The best you could say about it was that it certainly didn’t look like I’d popped out to M&S and picked it up, I’d quite obviously made it myself. For some reason, this year, Jill wrestled the responsibility for cake-baking from me and created a carrot cake in the shape of our now-two-year-old‘s favourite fluffy toy.

Needless to say, it doesn’t take Mary Berry to tell you which is most impressive, BUT I have a year to practise and I’m pretty stubborn about this stuff. If the quality of cake is going to continue to grow exponentially then it is certainly something to look forward to, Elsa won’t know what’s hit her when she turns three!
I’ll just have to remember to throw the packaging away and mess up a few pans in the kitchen to cover my tracks…
