The boss of an American personal injury firm has splashed out £4.2 million on his daughter’s 15th birthday party. Texan Thomas J Henry and wife Azteca said they wanted Maya’s birthday to be “unforgettable”, providing live performances from Pitbull and Nick Jonas as part of the festivities. There is no word yet on whether this made an appearance on the ghetto blaster, though.
More than 600 guests were invited to the shindig in a 55,000 square foot venue that had been specially built for the event in San Antonio. The hall featured a garden room and a ballroom and was decorated with walls of roses and giant cherry blossom trees.
Maya Henry is regularly photographed on Instagram with celebrities such as One Direction and Hillary Clinton and uses her social media clout (more than 18,000 followers on the photo-sharing site) to support educational schemes in her home state. A worthy cause of course, but is it as much fun as the Dads of Instagram?
I guess it’s not for anyone else to tell her dad how to spend his money, but it does seem a teensy bit excessive. Add into that the sleepless nights he’ll now have over how he’ll fund her 16th, 18th and 21st birthday parties and playing a few rounds of Twister in a bunting-bedecked village hall is looking like a far superior option.
It’s to be hoped the birthday cake was slightly classier than the one I made for Elsa’s first birthday.
